Photos from 2005

Welcome to my photos from 2005. Each album is a slideshow for you to flick through at your own pace. Have a gander at them, there is no rush. Some are a few MBs and so may take a while to download depending on your internet connection speed. I hope it's worth it though!

This year was an amazing year, there were SO many trips. Countries include Thailand, Laos and Russia along with plenty of albums from random little climbing trips and from around Durham and Sheffield too as this was my first full year at University.

Snow Wintery Fun

Cairngorms, Scotland (2005-01-05)

Snow Wintery Fun IconIn our eternal search for snow and decent weather Rich, Sarah and I went to Aviemore for a week over New Year. Was definatly a good trip, and towards the end of the trip our dreams were realised: snow is cool!!

Bouldering with DUMC

Bridestones, England (2005-01-29)

Bouldering with DUMC IconThis was a weekend away to Bridestones for a spot of bouldering with DUMC (Durham University Mountaineering Club). Was really good actually, I got stuck into some great little problems.

Night Photography

Durham, England (2005-02-21)

Night Photography IconMy room mate and I went around Durham to take some decent long exposure shots. My personal favourite is the snow in the spot lamps for the Cathedral as they are nicely blurred.

DUHWS Ambleside

Lake District, England (2005-02-26)

DUHWS Ambleside IconA DUHWS (Durham University Hill Walking Society) trip to Ambleside in the small amount of snow that was present. The trip was doubly exciting because Rachel came too, with her new boots, they were good.

Holiday with et als...

Fife, Scotland (2005-04-02)

Holiday with et als... IconThis Easter our family met up with El Als for a week and a bit in a cottage in Anstruther in Fife, it was really good, an excellent place to get away from things.

Term at Hatfield College

Hatfield College, Durham, England (2005-05-02)

Term at Hatfield College IconA few random photos from a term at Hatfield College. Oh yeah, Jonny Wilkinson came for a photo shoot.

Wanderings

who knows?, England (2005-06-02)

Wanderings IconAfter exams Charters and I wandered around Durham in search of tall cliffs to climb, unfortunatly we came back empty handed, but it was a laugh though. Especially the field from Vietnam!!

Visiting et als

Edingburgh, Scotland (2005-06-07)

Visiting et als IconAnother of the things I did after exams was to catch a train up north to visit El Als in Ratho, the bonniest of places. I stayed for a weekend and managed to cram a walk to the Firth in and a session at the new climbing centre in the old quarry at Ratho.

Summer Rowing

Durham, England (2005-06-09)

Summer Rowing IconMy (non-already-hardcore-rower) mates at Uni decided to take up rowing 'for fun' for a few weeks, I went out and took pictures of them, oh what a laugh. Although, to be fair, they are far better than me!!

Jazz in the Field

Edale, England (2005-06-11)

Jazz in the Field IconOne of my friend's mum helps to organise a charity Jazz concert in Edale, called 'Jazz in the Field', and so, like good little troopers, we attend. Its a classic event, with red wine from the bottle, local ales to make your hair curly and enough music so that the most introvert person is obliged to shake/dance!! Its really good, and this year, I took my camera, woo!!

Climbing at Frogatt

Peak District, England (2005-06-16)

Climbing at Frogatt IconA random day's climbing at Frogatt Edge, nothing more, nothing less, just the unusual, non-slabby, Frogatt.

Results BBQ

Durham, England (2005-06-20)

Results BBQ IconMajor day after exams, the celebratory BBQs next to the river. Loads of people there, just sipping Pimms (or wine or beer) and enjoying the sun, with no worries to think about.

Three Peaks

Yorkshire Dales, England (2005-06-25)

Three Peaks IconA year ago I did this walk, and only just managed to complete it in time, under awful conditions. This year, the sun was good, decent breeze and a bit more knowledge about what I was to face enabled me to knock 3 and a half hours of my previous time!!

Y12 Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

Kinlochleven, Scotland (2005-07-15)

Y12 Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award IconOnce again I went back to my old sixth form (KES) in the summer to help out on their annual summer expedition to Scotland for the Y12s to do their Gold DofE. Always a good laugh, and this year was certainly a good one.

Laos Trip 2005

Vientianne, Laos (2005-07-29)

Laos Trip 2005 IconIn the summer I was able to go to my favourite place for the second time, very lucky. Stayed in Vientiene for over 2 weeks and travelled south on the Mekong to see the Irrawaddy dolphins, which we actually saw. Not bad to say there are about only 100 left in the whole world!!

Random Bike Ride

Peak District, England (2005-08-23)

Random Bike Ride IconAs the title says it was a random bike ride, however, the colour of the heather was good, I think at any rate, you may think what you wish.

Lawrencefield Quarry

Peak District, England (2005-09-03)

Lawrencefield Quarry IconThis was a new crag for us. It was just tall enough for us to do a two-pitch route, which was neat for the Peaks. However, there were ants on the belay point half way up, not good!!

Derwent and Bleaklow

Peak District, England (2005-09-06)

Derwent and Bleaklow IconI decided that, for a challenge, I wanted to walk from Derwent, over Derwent Moors, to Bleaklow, then to Kinder and down into Edale and come home. This, didn't happen, which I put down to the weather, it was SO hot and I had to drink a lot of water, so, consequently I did not have enough, and I got picked up on the A57, just after Bleaklow.

St Petersburg (and Riga and Tallinn)

all around, Russia, Estonia, Latvia (2005-09-11)

St Petersburg (and Riga and Tallinn) IconDuring the end of the summer I was able to go to St Petersburg with some friends from Uni for 10 days, staying in a Youth Hostel. Flying out to Estonia and coming back via Lativa, the trip as a whole was a very good experience.

Ox Stones

Peak District, England (2005-09-21)

Ox Stones IconRich heard about a set of boulders just out of Lodge Moor which had been neglected by the bouldering community and were finally being explored, so we went and check them put. They are called "Ox Stones" and they are untouched, its the grippiest grit EVER, it was unreal, hands bleading after 20mins but SO worth it!!

Wanderings

Durham, England (2005-11-16)

Wanderings IconWhenever I am bored in Durham I just go for a wander with my camera, there is always something to see out there, and this time was no different.

Frosty Durham

Durham, England (2005-11-19)

Frosty Durham IconOnce again, another wander around Durham, this time in the first major frost of the year. There we some brilliant effects out there, it was really cool (and cold)!!

Photography Labs

Durham, England (2005-11-22)

Photography Labs IconPhotography labs was a one off session for our course, which involved going out and taking some pictures with a Black and White film on a SLR. We then developed the images in the lab, and these are the results. I have included the ones whose exposure was all wrong, just to so that even Hatfielders make mistakes.

Snowy Stannington

Sheffield, England (2005-12-28)

Snowy Stannington IconThis was a set of wanderings which I did around Stannington, the village I live in on the outskirts of Sheffield. Was really good (as always) and there were plenty of things to see out there!!

Snowy Stannington (again)

Sheffield, England (2005-12-29)

Snowy Stannington (again) IconAnother set of wanderings, browse at your leisure/pleasure.
