Photos from 2004
Welcome to my photos from 2004. Each album is a slideshow for you to flick through at your own pace. Have a gander at them, there is no rush. Some are a few MBs and so may take a while to download depending on your internet connection speed. I hope it's worth it though!
This was a busy year which contained many trips involving DofE Award. I returned to my old sixth form and helped out on many of their training weekends, both for Y9s and Y12s.
Duke of Edinburgh Training Weekend
Thornbridge, England (2004-02-07)
After the amazing time I had the previous summer, I decided to join the staff and help out with their efforts with the next year's worth of students. To this end, a few mates and I went to Thornbridge in the White Peak to assist on the Training Weekend for the students in the year beneath us, it was really good, very cold though!!
Walking in the Snow
Stannington, England (2004-02-27)
Well, this was quite naughty, but I was eager for the snow this year, so when it finally arrived I went arround Stannington and walked in the direction of the Peak District to take some photos. I was very pleased with the results. The naughty thing was that this day happened to be a school day, so I simply texted my mates and told them I was "snowed in", the fact that the buses were still running did annoy them, but it was only for one day.
DofE Training Weekend
White Peak, England (2004-06-12)
As with one of the previous albums, I was helping out on a Duke of Edinburgh Training weekend, this time it was with some Y9s, and not with the Y12s as before.
Three Peaks
Yorkshire Dales, England (2004-07-03)
This was the first time which I attempted the "Three Peak Challenge". It consists of a round walk (almost 24 miles I think) taking in the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales, which are Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, which must be completed in under 12 hours. The weather didn't help much either and I have to admit I struggled, however, I did manage to finish it with a time of 11hours and 28mins, which was just within the limit, yay!!
DofE Training Weekend
Peak District, England (2004-07-06)
This was another of the Training weekends for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. This particular one was the Bronze practice for the Y9s. The group we were in charge of were not very proficiant, so we had to walk a distance behind them so that when they got lost, we could tell the teachers where they were.
Y12 DofE Expedition
Kinlochleven, Scotland (2004-07-09)
During the summer I went back to my old sixth form (KES) and helped out with their major expedition to Scotland. This was the first year of me helping on the Y12 trip, having previously only done the Y9 in the peaks. The previous year I was a Y12 on the very same trip, so it was interesting having the roles reversed.
Vignemale Exped
Pyrenees, France (2004-09-07)
Probably Rich and I's first major independant foriegn trip, which was to the French Pyrennes. Our intention was to climb the mountain Vignemale, which we did via a 3 day trek though the region. One of the best trips of my life, very VERY good.
DUMC Stanage Weekend
Peak District, England (2004-10-30)
This was the first DUMC (Durham University Mountaineerin Club) weekend which I went on, and it seemed a bit of a disappointment to go to Stanage, as it is so close to where I live at home anyway. But never mind, a good time was had by all.
DUHWS 'High Force' Trip
High Force, England (2004-11-06)
This was the first DUHWS (Durham University Hill Walking Society) trip which I went on, it was to the region around the 'High Force' waterfall. Both Rachel and Rich came along, and we had a good time.
DUMC Roaches Weekend Trip
(not entirely sure), England (2004-11-20)
This was the second DUMC (Durham University Mountaineerin Club) trip I went on, and this was to the Roaches, a little outcrop of rock in the middle of nowhere. Climbing on the second day was limited due to the cold weather and my hands freezing up!!
