France, 2004

Towards the end of the summer in 2004 Rich and I went to the south of France for a little trip. We went with the intention of climbing the Vignemale (aka Grande Vignemale or Pique Longue), which stands at 3298m. We set up camp in Cauterets in the valley below and then did a 3 day round trip, reaching the summit by about 10am on the second day after setting off before dawn. It was a brilliant trip considering I had never done any mountaineering outside of the UK before this. It was a great start to serious mountaineering, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Vignemale ExpedProbably Rich and I's first major independant foriegn trip, which was to the French Pyrennes. Our intention was to climb the mountain Vignemale, which we did via a 3 day trek though the region. One of the best trips of my life, very VERY good.
